It’s true that it has those, but there are also loads of family-friendly events that provide you with a way to get out on the town and enjoy new experiences with those you hold most dear. Here are our picks for the family-friendly events happening all around Los Angeles this fall, worthy of a spot on your calendar.

Chinatown Moon Festival

October 7 – All Day

Admission: FREE

The Moon Festival is a 3,000-year-old event that continues to illuminate the Chinatown area. Enjoy parades with roaming dragons, martial art exhibits, food and artwork throughout the Chinatown area. Lion Dancers and other traditional Chinese events will take place, and there are spots throughout the festivities where you can use a telescope to observe the moon. Don’t forget, while you are there, enjoy traditional Chinese moon cakes, a delicacy made specifically for this festival.

The Underwood Farms Fall Festival has become a tradition for many people in LA. The festival includes everything from pumpkin picking at the patch to rides and a petting farm. Music, food, and other entertainment can be found at the festival. As a bonus, you can also buy freshly picked vegetables from the farm to bring home for dinner.

Whale Watching

Many people come to Southern California to whale watch during the summer. However, the best times to see some of the more unusual whales is during the fall. As whales migrate south for the winter, the waters off of L.A. are filled with these magnificent creatures. You can take a whale watching trip for a half or full day. Many of the whale watching tours will offer lower prices during the weekdays. This is one of the most breathtaking family-friendly events in L.A. that you can experience.

Novenario Processions

October 25th – November 2nd

Downtown Los Angeles

The Novenario processions are parades and celebrations that lead up to the Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. Parades and celebrations filled with dancing skeletons and other mystical beings, this Mexican traditionally celebration is a lot of fun to experience.

Theme Park Fall Festivals

If you love going to the theme parks, you may also enjoy their special events during the Fall season. Disneyland, Universal Studios and their partner parks all host a variety of special events during this period. Most are based around the Halloween theme. Check with the parks to see if these events are part of the general admission or have a separate fee.
